Synopsis

Repic is a contemporary roots dance piece that places the castanet at the centre of its stage research, understood as a sonic, bodily and relational instrument.

The project starts from the study of the repic — the rapid roll of the castanets — as a shared physical and rhythmic act, exploring repetition, collective listening and the building of a common body through sound.

Far from a folkloric reading, Repic offers a contemporary rereading of the castanet and of roots dance as living heritage, able to generate new stage languages and to build solid bridges between tradition and present-day creation.

Sound becomes movement, movement generates rhythm, and rhythm shapes the relationships between the performers, putting the bond between the individual and the group at the heart of the piece.

Concept and stage world
Repicar

Re: to repeat. Picar: from Latin picare, to strike.

Roots not as a closed form, but as ground for research, transmission and transformation. The castanet works as an extension of the body and as a shared, non-verbal language.

The repic — repetition, variation, insistence — builds a sonic architecture that orders time, shapes the quality of each gesture and keeps the bodies constantly listening to one another. Sounds, silences, textures and rhythmic dynamics become dramaturgical material, testing the group’s endurance, persistence and cohesion.
